Microfiber-Free Colorado

Microfiber-Free Colorado is a campaign to raise awareness and tackle the leading source of microplastic pollution in Colorado: microfibers from synthetic clothing. Microfibers are tiny plastic threads shed from clothing made with synthetic (aka plastic) fabrics such as polyester, nylon, and acrylic. When these items are washed, microfibers are released into the water system. Unfortunately, wastewater treatment facilities are not fully equipped to filter them out, allowing microfibers to flow into Colorado’s watershed.

Plastic-Free Colorado is working to advance a Microfiber-Free movement across the state by educating the public about microfiber pollution, promoting practical solutions to reduce microfiber release, and advancing policy efforts to address microfiber pollution.
